Hats of the west

The hats in the west were open crown with a flat brim and were mostly light in color. The open crowns were usually 4″ rarely taller, The crown of the hats didn’t have creases in them. They would dent them with wear and by grabbing them by the crown. The brim of the hats were flat and sometimes turned up in the front from riding or from where the cowboy would grab the hat. The colors were mostly light in color like Silver Belly , BoneĀ or Sand. The light color would keep them cool in the hot sun. There were no records of sun stroke. You can get a custom made hat just like the ones worn by the cowboys in the 1800’s.
