The cowboys in 1800’s wore the Boss of the Plains hat. When it was purchased by the cowboy the hat had an open cown that was 4 inches and a flat brim that was from 3 to 4 inches. The creases were created by the cowboy not the hatter. The crown would some times have creases from the cowboy grabbing it and the brim was shaped the same way. The hats were generally light in color because of the hot summer sun. The Boss of the Plains hat protected the cowboys from the harsh weather conditions. It was the cowboys hat.
