1. This is the hat Elsa Dutton wore in 1883 series. The original is a prop hat that the costume designers put a hat band on. Hats have traditionally always been made with ribbon on the brims.  Manufacturers of hats like Stetson, only put ribbon on brims. The costume designers want their hats and clothing to look period authentic.. So why would they put leather on the brim?  They wouldn’t.  Look closely and you can see that it’s a ribbon.  In different lighting it’s redish, copper and brown. If it had leather, it wouldn’t be so floppy like in the show.  My hat is made of 100% European Hare, not wool like others selling on Etsy.  And you can get it in three different colors.
